There is nothing like the fragrance of lilacs. There are memories tied to that smell. That scent transports me back to when I was a little girl. I grew up in Carson City Nevada, and we had lilac bushes all along the side of the driveway and the scent was intoxicating. Where does the scent take you?
Lilacs are brought down from the higher elevations to the farmers markets around Los Angeles, and everyone is thrilled to get them. Their scientific name is 'Syringa vulgaris' and they comes from the olive family. Make sure to cut their woody stalks when you bring it home so they can stay hydrated. If you have your lilacs and a white pitcher, you are ready.
