How you Arrange Flowers in a Modern Glass Vase

When you think of a modern glass vase, design terms come to mind like minimal, simple, less is more.  Some of these vases take the form of simple geometric shapes, cylinders, squares, spheres, or rectangles.  Others may be footed, or they may have some type of simple wave to them.  Just like contemporary architecture tends to be less ornamental and more geometrical, many of these modern glass vases lean in that same direction.

Sometimes what you can see through the vase becomes part of the design, like straight flower stems in a 'flattened fishbowl' or 'pillowcase vase'.  Sometimes the mass shape of cranberries or kumquats that you see floating through the glass, becomes part of the floral design.  In these cases we are talking about simple repetitive shapes or masses being viewed as one whole shape and these shapes become part of the design.  Or in the case of the rectilinear arrangement shown below, there is actually another rectilinear vase within the larger vase to make an eco-sphere for a Fancy Goldfish, and you have a bright moving part of a modern exotic floral design.

  • Thicker vases don't break as easily as thinner vases.  1/4 think 'bubble bowls' are safer to work with.

  • Vases with a thicker bottom add to the design.

  • You can clean glass vases with water and soap, and then dry so there are no spots.
